Winterholiday 2003 in Sweden

Where else could I have been in winter 2003 as with Maria and Donald from Aurora Borealis Adventures? Again, I spent 2 weeks there and participated in numerous trips on the dogsled. The weather was pretty good: down to -10 during daytime in the beginning and up to +10 at the end of my stay with lots of sunshine. As there was plenty of snow, these "high" temperatures had no bad influence on our trips. If you want to see a picture in a bigger size, just click on it and it will open in a new window. These pictures were taken during lunch break on our first tour:
Some pictures, taken when we had a brief stop on one of the following days:
When we visited Lycksele I made this picture of the famous ice-obelisk that is "built" there every year during wintertime: water spills out at the top, freezes and, over a period of several weeks, forms this obelisk. This year the obelisk measured around 30 meters in height.
Once again some pictures of the dogs that were taken during a brief stop on one of the following tours:
This was a perfect day with a lot of sunshine and moderate temperatures. We made a wonderful full-day tour through the snow-covered wilderness and across frozen lakes. We had a long lunch break with a lot of time to take pictures of the dogs ..... :
Some pictures made on a short tour in the nearer surrounding of Ekorrsele:
At the end of my vacation I stayed 4 days with Brigitte at Hällnäs. One of her bitches had puppies during this time, 6 weeks old and, of course, soooooo cuuuute:
Hiking through Hällnäs and the surrounding forests:
The first excursion for the puppies to the big wide world, the start of the sleddog race on the Vindelälven, the river that passes Ekorrsele and Hällnäs. Of course they didn't participate, but, who knows, one day, maybe ..... :
Meanwhile, the big ones are starting. It is the third and last day of the Vindelälven race and in the end of the day each class will have a winning team.
The puppies prefer watching the whole scene or taking a rest after all the excitement.
Finally, two nice pictures from a small village close to Hällnäs.

Winterholiday 2002 in Sweden

My longest stay (until now, let's see what the future brings) at Aurora Borealis Adventures was in winter 2002. I spent 2 whole weeks there - you can see that I liked it the years before ..... :-). Together with Donald we did numerous trips through a wonderful snowy and peaceful nature. The weather was just perfect: between -10 and 0 degrees (Celsius) during daytime and mostly sunny, as you can see on the pictures. If you want to see a picture in a bigger size, just click on it and it will open in a new window. To close this window, just click on it and it will close automatically.
On this trip we rested right beside the river and could hear the murmuring water from the rapids nearby:
Donald and me on the trail:
A late afternoon trip can also be very nice, especially when the sky shows such beautiful colours. During our rest a campfire and the stuff that we heated on it helped us to warm up again:
Again a beautiful sunny day that made our trip even more enjoyable. The dogs look very pleased as well .....:
Some pictures of Ekorrsele and the river, almost completely frozen:
Another day with perfect weather. The wind has covered the trails on the wide roaming areas of the lakes. Then the dogs sometimes need a bit of encouragement to go the right way:
We spent this day together with other mushers and skidoo drivers near a lake and enjoyed our time there with icefishing, resting, having lunch, caressing the dogs and - of course - taking pictures. Didn't I get some nice shots?? But with these motives the pictures can only become nice .....:
I spent the last 3 days of my holiday with Brigitte in Hällnäs. I took these pictures when I hiked through the wonderful snowy nature around Hällnäs:

Winterholiday 2001 in Sweden

In winter 2001 I spent again some days with Aurora Borealis Adventures and joined a few trips on dogsled and snowscooter. This page should give you an impression about my time there and the wonderful wilderness in this area. At first two pictures from an ice-cold (-25 degrees Celsius) morning in Ekorrsele:
After a half-day trip with the dogsled on the first day we had a full-day trip with the snowscooter on our schedule, including a lunch break for warming up. On our way we met two dogsleds and at one spot we had a wonderful view over the frozen scenery below and around:
On our third day it was again very cold but sunny and we enjoyed a full-day trip with the dogsled. These pictures of our furry friends were taken during our lunch-break at a nice sunny spot:
On our fourth day we had another full-day trip with the dogsled on our schedule. Here are some pictures that I took during our coffee-break:

Winterholiday 2000 in Sweden

From February 23rd until March 7th I stayed in northern Sweden in the Vindeln area, about 1 hour from the next airport in Umeå. During this time I was 6 days in Hällnäs, where I stayed at hotel and conference centre Parken. Another week I stayed with Aurora Borealis Adventures in Ekorrsele, where I took part in a mushing school. This page contains some pictures that I took during this time. If you want to see a picture in a bigger size, just click on it and it will open in a new window. To close this window, just click on it and it will close automatically.
First some pictures that I took in the Hällnäs and Vindeln area and from the frozen Vindelnälvens river when I made some excursions by snow scooter:
